5 ways to drape different types of saree’s

Sari is one of the most traditional outfits worn by the women in India. It is the most preferred costumes during the wedding. Saree is just not the six yards of cloth to be draped over the body but gives women a modest and gorgeous look to her. India is the country with diverse religions and therefore people. Being the country of varied religions, each and every region has its own style of wearing sarees which have been carried forward for many years. So, come let’s see some of the saree’s and their draping way.

Gujarati Saree- in Gujarat at most wedding events, women’s dress up in traditional look in wearing their own origin draping style of saree. This style of saree is also known as the siddha palla saree. Because the saree pallu comes in the front to highlight the look by extending it covering the whole body.







Steps to wear a Gujarati saree:
1.      The first step is to tuck the saree in the petticoat taking it from right to the left and then bring it to the front.
2.      Now, in the second step we will make the pleats and tuck it neatly with the right side of the pleats.
3.      Now hold the end of the pallu and make its pleats.
4.      Then, take the pallu over to the right shoulder and pin it leaving the pleats in the front.
5.      And at last, pin the hanging pleats at the left side of your waist.




Marathi saree-  Maharashtra is known for its culture activities and saree draping methods at festival, and the fishermen dressing for women in the past was a saree in 9yards, which was draped in a particular style for women to be more actively comfortable for their activities.
 Steps to wear a Marathi saree-
1.      In the beginning of the step just hold the one end of the saree and wrap around your waist.
2.      Now, taking the equal inches of both the side edges, tie a knot at the waist centre.
3.      Now, take the shorter end from the bottom, bring it to the under the legs and tuck it at the back centre.
4.      Now, take the untied portion of the saree and make 5-6 pleats and tuck it to the waist centre.
5.      Make 4-5 pallu pleats then bring the pleats from around the back to the front, then put it over to the left side of the shoulder and pin it neatly.

Mumtaaz style saree- The Indian diva of film industry Mumtaaz, who played a various roles in her movies and inspired the women to follow her fashion style, also had brought out the Mumtaaz saree draping style.

Steps to wear a Mumtaaz saree-

1.      We will start with the first step by tucking the saree in the petticoat and then wrap one full round.
2.      Then make 1-2 pleats and tuck it into the petticoat at the centre facing to left.
3.      Now, bring the untied saree from around the back to the front and tuck it 4-5 inches above the full length of the saree.
4.      Now, make the 6-7 pallu-pleats of the untied saree.
5.      At last bring the pallu from the back and put it over to the left shoulder.

Mermaid style saree- The mermaid drape style is a form of drape from the basic but gives the curvy effect on the hip section.

          Steps to wear a Mermaid saree-
1.      First step is to tuck the saree one end and wrap one full round.
2.      Pick the other end of the saree and make pallu pleats.
3.      Now, hold the pallu plates, from around the back bring it to the front and place it to the front, place it over the right shoulder.
4.      Leave the pallu hanging such that.
5.      Now, tuck the leftover untidy portion of the saree in the petticoat.
6.      At last pin the pallu corner.

Open Pallu style saree- The basic style of draping a saree, the method is followed and keeping the pallu opened at the shoulder without pleates. It is used in work place for a good presentable look in simplicity and comfort.

          Steps to wear an Open Pallu Saree-
1.      Carrying all the steps the same until the pallu pleats are taken.
2.      Do not make pleats, and just wrap it covering front bodice, pinning the top edge at the left shoulder, allowing the other edge just hang down.
